This session will examine holistic STEM faculty development through engagement with the Handbook of STEM Faculty Development, organized by the co-editors of the Handbook. Chapter authors will be available for discussion of implications of their work.
The handbook has three themes:
1) Inputs to STEM faculty development;
2) Mechanisms for STEM faculty development;
3) Outputs from STEM faculty development.

Shannon Stefl is the Assistant Director of the Office of Teaching of Effectiveness and Innovation at Clemson University. She leads a wide array of professional development programs for STEM instructors and specializes in inclusive teaching strategies and faculty well-being.
Sandy Linder is a Professor and Assistant Chair in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Clemson University. She has almost 20 years of experience related to professional development and adult learning and has published extensively on these topics related to education.

The Safe Zone Level 3 Trans Allyship workshop explores transgender-specific terms and concepts, the climate for trans individuals in society and in STEM and its broader implications, and action strategies for trans allies.
Safe Zone Workshops are interactive, research-informed workshops for students, faculty, and the professional community to build the knowledge and skills needed to create a more inclusive and affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ individuals in engineering. Anthony Butterfield is a Professor (Lecturer) in the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Utah. He received his B. S. and Ph. D. from the University of Utah and a M. S. from the University of California, San Diego. His teaching responsibilities include the senior unit operations laboratory and freshman design laboratory. His research interests focus on undergraduate education, targeted drug delivery, photobioreactor design, and instrumentation.
Bryce E. Hughes is an Associate Professor in Adult and Higher Education at Montana State University, and holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Organizational Change from the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as an M.A. in Student Development Administration from Seattle University and a B.S. in General Engineering from Gonzaga University. His research interests include teaching and learning in engineering, STEM education policy, and diversity and equity in STEM. He is currently Principal Investigator on an NSF CAREER funded project examining the experiences of LGBTQ students in STEM.
Kyle Trenshaw is the Assistant Director for STEM Education at the University of Rochester's Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri in 2009, and his M.S. (2011) and Ph.D. (2014) in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His research interests include science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education; supporting diversity in STEM fields with an emphasis on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) students; and using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to improve students’ communication skills during group work.

Nicole P. Pitterson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech. She holds a B.Sc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Technology, Jamaica, a M.Sc. in Manufacturing Engineering from Western Illinois University, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Education from Purdue University.
