Generative AI Across the Curriculum: Practice and Reflection
Educational Apps, Tools, and Frameworks
This session covers campus energy visualization, design thinking for graduate student resilience, team charter negotiations for engagement, and simulation tools for three-dimensional inflatable design. Interviews, reflections, and technical case studies show how learning tools help students work with technical data and social interactions. The work considers digital and physical models as ways to connect abstract concepts with real-world implementation. It also addresses how simulation software and behavioral agreements can support student persistence and clearer collaboration in complex engineering settings.
This is the annual Extended Executive Committee (EEC) meeting of the Engineering Libraries Division (ELD).
The Pre-college division will host a session to present an overview of a National Academies consensus report, Data And Computing In K-12 Education: Foundational Competencies (https://www.nationalacademies.org/our-work/developing-competencies-for-the-future-of-data-and computing-the-role-of-k-12). In this interactive session, presenters will provide an overview of the evidence, conclusions, and recommendations from the report and encourage attendees to reflect and share their thoughts about how aspects of data and computing can be taught to K-12 grade students. Elizabeth T. Cady (moderator)) is a Senior Program Officer with the Science and Engineering Education and Workforce Program in the Center for Advancing Science and Technology at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Shaundra B Daily (speaker and report committee member) is a Cue Family Professor of The Practice in Electrical and Computer Engineering & Computer Science and Levitan Faculty Fellow at Duke University. Outside of engineering, zines have increasingly become leveraged by educators to both teach students concepts, and through the act of making them, explore their own interests, perspectives, beliefs, and ideas. Outside of education, zines have been a useful and meaningful platform for building community, organizing, and information sharing in an accessible way. This 90-minute interactive panel examines how engineering culture and institutional expectations shape the experiences of individuals with ADHD in academic and industry settings. Moving beyond personal storytelling, the session will explore how norms around productivity, professionalism, and success influence who feels supported and who feels pressure to adapt.
