As global energy demand continues to rise and lower-emission technologies gain traction, the need for a hydrogen-ready workforce across engineering and energy systems has intensified. As hydrogen technologies mature and diversify, ongoing professional development (PD) training is essential for engineers and clean energy professionals to remain current with evolving technologies, standards, and applications. Despite increasing policy attention and technological progress, hydrogen PD training offerings vary widely in provider distribution, level of curricular integration, and alignment with validated learning outcomes. This study presents a systematic landscape analysis of 164 hydrogen-related training courses using web scraping and thematic analysis methods. Course data were collected from publicly available online sources provided by professional societies, industry organizations, and private training entities. From these initial findings, six thematic course domains and four provider types were identified from the course metadata. Hydrogen safety, risk management, and emergency response represented the largest thematic category (25%), followed by hydrogen technology, engineering systems, and operations (18%), cross cutting renewable energy systems and energy transition (17%), hydrogen science, fundamentals, and chemistry (16%), hydrogen applications and end use integration (14%), and hydrogen economy, policy, markets, and business applications (9%). In addition, provider analysis revealed that industry and professional organizations (62%) offered the majority of courses, followed by Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs, 31%), industry research institutes (6%), and independent training providers (2%). Provider by theme patterns indicated that specialized safety training dominated the course landscape and was primarily delivered by professional organizations. Overall, the findings suggest a need for more competency-aligned and integrated training pathways spanning the hydrogen value chain. The findings highlight the roles of professional societies, independent training entities, and universities in strengthening the hydrogen workforce pipeline through professional training. Course providers can drive more effective, industry‑aligned PD pathways that keep pace with rapidly evolving energy system development.
