2026 ASEE Annual Conference & Exposition

With the recent wave of retirements in engineering and science librarianship, there is a need for tools to develop technical information librarians to support both science and engineering disciplines. At University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, an open educational resource is being developed to support both library and information science pre-professionals (graduate assistants) as well as mid-career librarians that need to up-skill in support of newly assumed STEM liaison roles. The OER is being developed in a modular format covering information important both for finding and retrieving technical information, as well as teaching STEM information literacy. Nuances of serving as an academic STEM librarian are also included, such as preparing for accreditation visits and working with curriculum committees to scaffold information literacy across the undergraduate experience. This presentation will describe the development and content of the OER, as well as future plans for assessment and iterative design.
