Abstract
As international education becomes increasingly vital in preparing students for a globalized world, experiential learning abroad offers a powerful model for deepening both academic understanding and cross-cultural competence. This paper explores Northeastern University's five-week Dialogue of Civilizations program in Greece, Evolution of Scientific Thought and Technology Abroad, which integrates historical exploration with scientific and technological education.
Through immersive visits to archaeological sites, museums, and cultural landmarks, students engage directly with Greece's rich scientific and technological heritage. This experiential framework is designed to enhance students’ understanding of the evolution of scientific thought while fostering global awareness and cultural sensitivity.
Using qualitative analysis of student reflections and program evaluations, this study assesses the program's educational impact. Findings indicate significant growth in students’ global perspectives, appreciation for ancient innovation, and ability to contextualize modern science within its historical roots. This research contributes to the broader discourse on international experiential education and offers a model for designing impactful study abroad programs that effectively integrate academic content with cultural immersion.
