The workshop consists of three interactive phases, performed in a safe and gamified environment, allowing the participant to act and reflect without negative consequences.

The experience-oriented learning-paradigm, used in phase 1, is based on an established tool (METALOG training tools OHG, n.d.) that has been adapted for this workshop. This tool brings learning content to life through a variety of applications, e.g., analyzing individuals’ motives, group behavior, or (as in the case of this workshop) cultural awareness. The participants will be exposed to and master conflictual situations due to cultural deviations. Based on Bandura's self-efficacy framework (1977), two of the four sources to develop beneficial self-efficacy are addressed.
In phase 2, pictures will be presented, which, depending on participants’ cultural backgrounds, can be judged as provocative or ordinary. Participants experience culture-related ambiguity and reflect on their own reactions to these images.

By using a Taboo game format in phase 3, participants will experience their academic background as a source for cultural differences, compared to non-academic backgrounds or novices in academia.

While the first two phases are debriefed individually, the reflection after phase 3 will encompass all three phases to create a holistic experience.
