Virtual Asia Exploration (VAx) and Hybrid Asia Exploration (HAx) are innovative mobility program series aiming at providing all Asian students with equitable learning experiences regardless of location and financial limitations. The organizing team of 12 multinational lecturers from 5 countries (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines) is collaboratively conducting an interdisciplinary education that consists of technology, histories and cultures of Asian countries for enhancing participants' self-efficacy as Asians. VAx initially started as a countermeasure to satisfy desperate demands for mobility programs hampered by pandemic. Eventually this Digital Transformation has invented a new methodology to offer borderless mobility programs throughout Asia regardless of location and financial issues.
After 3 batches in 2021 and 2022 with a total of 239 certificate awardees, the program is upgraded to the hybrid version in 2023. Out of 88 registered participants with 10 nationalities, 43 attended the onsite sessions at Institut Teknologi Sepluh Nopember (ITS) Indonesia and enjoyed face-to-face lectures and field studies in the local community. Those who couldn’t travel to Indonesia for any reasons could continue this program online.
In response to the favorable feedback from participants, ITS and the organizing team have already determined to host the same program in 2024, aiming at provision of this borderless to more countries, students, and even academic staff. With the vigorous leadership by ITS and SIT, this team is willing to continue this innovative mobility program for offering equitable interdisciplinary learning opportunities throughout Asia.
