An Ecosystem of Support Initiatives for BIPOC, Women, and Domestic Graduate Students in STEM

Presented at Track 3: Technical Session 1: An Ecosystem of Support Initiatives for BIPOC, Women, and Domestic Graduate Students in STEM

An ecosystem of support is required to support student success at all levels. Yet institutions often fail to implement replicate the rigor of support programs for graduate students in engineering and computing disciplines that exists at the undergraduate level. The College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences at Clemson University has implemented several programatic initiatives since 2018 to support the recruitment, retention, and matriculation of BIPOC, women, and domestic graduate students. Feature initiatives include and Inclusive Excellence Strategic Plan, STEM ALL IN, ASPIRE Peer Mentors, and the Future Scholars Academy. Best practices will be shared along with institutional data which reflects the success of these initiatives in our efforts to recruit and matriculate underrepresented and domestic graduate students in engineering and computing.
